  • About: Kathmandu

After breakfast at hotel, proceed for sightseeing tour covering Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swyambhunath Stupa and Patan Durbar Square then back to hotel Kathmandu City: Here you will visit the temple of the Living Goddess, who acknowledges the greetings of the devotees from the balcony of her temple residence. Kasthamandap the source of the name Kathmandu and supposed to be made from the timber of a single tree and Durbar Square are with its array of temples overlooked by the Hanuman Dhoka Palace, the ancient residence of the Nepalese Royalty. The Kumari Goddess: Chosen at the age of four or five, the Kumari Devi is the most important of the several living goddesses in Nepal. Selected using very strict criteria, she moves into the temple with her family, leaving only to attain a few festivals each year. She sits on the balcony regularly, acknowledging the greetings of devotees. Her reign however lasts only until puberty, when she becomes a normal mortal again. Swayambhunath: Perched on a hilltop on the southwestern part of Kathmandu, Swayambhunath is one of the most important religious and cultural sites in Nepal and is associated with the birth of the Kathmandu Valley civilization. Approximately 2000 years old, Swayambhunath stupa, is a dome 20 meters in diameter and 32 meters high and is made of brick and earth mounted by a conical spire capped by a pinnacle of copper gilt. Many other smaller temples and places of religious importance for both Hindus and Buddhists, a perfect example of the symbiotic co-existence of different religious beliefs only found in Nepal surround it. The hill is heavily wooded on all sides with indigenous plant species, and troops of monkeys, giving it the nickname of Monkey Temple. The height of Swayambhunath also makes it a good vantage point and on clear sunny days one can see the Himalayas all the way to the east. Patan or Yala: Patan as it is known today is located on the southern banks of the Bagmati River and is one of the three main cities in Kathmandu Valley. The city is believed to be the first settlement in the Valley and was established by the Kirat dynasty who ruled for more than 1200 years from the 3rd century BC. Patan is famous for its amazing collection of fantastically carved temples, palace courtyards, water spouts, public baths and houses with their equally elaborate wood, stone and metal carvings under the patronages of the Kirat, Lichivi and Malla kings. Patan has more than a 1000 temples and monuments dedicated to the uniquely Nepali mix of Buddhist and Hindu gods, chief among which are the mounds erected by the great Indian Emperor Asoka in the four corners of the city when he visited Nepal in 250 BC. Patan Durbar square is one of the seven Monument Zones that make up the Kathmandu Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu

Early morning excursion to sarangkot for sunrise (subject weather Permitted) back to hotel for breakfast after breakfast proceed for sightseeing tour at Pokhara covering Davis fall, Gupteswor Mahadev Cave and Bindebashini Temple and visit Barahi Temple with one hour boating at Phewa Lake. Sarangkot: Sarangkot is a former Village Development Committee west of Pokhara in Kaski District Gandaki Zone. In 2015, it was annexed to Pokhara 26. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a total population of 5,060 with 1,010 individual households. The village is located on Sarangkot mountain at an altitude of 1600m and is renowned for its panoramic Himalayan views Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu as well as down on the city of Pokhara and Phewa lake. In recent years, Sarangkot has become a hotspot for paragliding. Davis fall's: Witness a unique waterfall that lies 2 Km from central Pokhara City. The water fall directly goes into a deep and narrow canal with no ends. It is believed that this deadly waterfall took the life of a tourist named David, who fell down into the cannel and was never found, and hence the name David waterfall, named in his memory by the people of Pokhara. This place has many nick names like Davy's fall, David's fall or Davis's fall, all mean the same thing `The Davis Water Fall'. Gupteswor Mahadev Cave: Gupteshwor Mahadev cave is one of the longest caves in Nepal. On the way to cave, there are shining stones seen everywhere and in the temple is big stone that looks like snake's head and tortoise which is consider as the image of the lord Shiva. Second part is very beautiful and you see shining stones and different types of rocks like bee hives. Seti Gorge: The Seti originates from the snow fields and glaciers around the twin peaks of Api and Nampa in the south facing slopes of the main Himalayas. The area is near the trijunction of the borders of Nepal, India (Kumaon, Uttarakhand), and China (Tibet). The river first flows in a south-easterly direction, then turns and flows in a south-westerly and finally south-easterly again before joining the Karnali or Ghagra River. It has cut a spectacular gorge across the Mahabharata Range and appears to be lost amongst caves and tunnels for a short distance. Overnight at Hotel in Pokhara

Dear Victor:

All your friends at AIPAC are very concerned about your health.  We missed you so much in India but, as you probably know, Rajneesh and the staff handled everything with their typical professionalism and competence.  Everything went off perfectly.  We greatly appreciate our partnership with IVAT.

Please let us know your health status.  We hope you are healing and wish you good health soon.  Jeff S and I will have to find some other opportunity to see you soon in our time zone rather than in Israel.

Thanks again to you and the entire IVAT team.

Warm regards,

Jeffrey Colman
